Name: Abigail
From: The U.S.A
Living in: Rotterdam
Abigail left Los Angeles for a work transfer to The Netherlands.
Abigail’s message started with everything she loves about The Netherlands. The main thing being the friendliness of people here. She says that in Los Angeles people rarely speak to people they don’t know. Even more rare is kindness or laughing between strangers. People just don’t do it.
Another huge plus for her is the big motorcycle riding community in Europe because riding has been a passion for most of her life.
I think most of us know of what’s called “the Dutch kilograms.” The weight you gain when you first arrive in The Netherlands and discover Dutch cheese, stroopwafel and breads.
Abigail was still happily enjoying this phase when she went shopping for new riding pants. In the changing room she couldn’t get her regular size past her hips. But she was determined because she knew the shop didn’t have a bigger size and she really wanted those pants.
From outside the changing room curtain a shop assistant gave Abigail encouraging words like “come on, the pants are stretchy, maybe it’s possible. It’s worth a try if it makes you happy.”
Abigail says she knows that the shop assistants at that store don’t make sales commissions so this woman was just being kind.
Abigail decided why not – she was wearing tights anyway, a bikini shows more than what she was wearing. So the shop assistant got stuck in trying to help her. And that’s where the funny side of this story happens.
Imagine Abigail and the shop assistant squashed into a small cubicle. The shop assistant pulling up the back of the pants. Doing little jumps to get more momentum while saying “no, this is a great butt – you keep the butt and change the pants.”
All while the changing room curtain had opened and they were now in clear view of three other shoppers who were incredibly confused and couldn’t stop staring.
PS – there’s an even better part to this story. After this adventure they met up again and are now a couple.
